If you are an animal lover or pet owner, this is a pretty special week for your pets. This week we celebrate our pets as it is National Pet Week. And, according to a National Pet Week website, Petweek.org, this week is a time to "promote responsible pet ownership, celebrate the human-animal bond, and promote public awareness of veterinary medicine."

In honor of National Pet Week, Petweek.org has a few statistics that are pretty interesting about pets.

  • There are 43 million dog owning households compared with 37.5 million cat owning households, but 81.7 million cats compared to 72 million dogs.
  • About 64% of all pet-owning households owned more than one pet.
  • Women are the primary caregivers for pets (74%)
  • Five of the top 10 pet owning states are in the Northwest- Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming.

Again, the above information is from Petweek.org. And, if you would like to read more about National Pet Week, you can check out that website.

To celebrate National Pet Week, you can check out a video of my Chihuahua named Mia singing along to Reba. Click here to watch it. The picture above is a photo of my cat Mosey. He was with me for 18 years. He died in 2010 and I miss him every day. He was a great friend.

How are you going to celebrate National Pet Week?
