5 Things to Do in Ilion and the Valley This Weekend

It's going to be a beautiful summer weekend in Central New York, with sunny skies and temperatures in the 80s (it could reach 90 on Sunday). This is the perfect time to get out and enjoy all that CNY has to offer - We suggest heading into Ilion, Herkimer, and the Valley area for some fun activities.

Start Your Adventures Off Right with Breakfast

You'll need to fuel up your body before heading out this weekend. Why not stop by Crazy Otto's in Herkimer? If you have never been there before, this place is worth a try. Make sure you order one of their omelets - They're HUGE! If you're not so hungry, you can order half an omelet and it's still more than filling. Plus it comes with delicious crispy hash browns and a side of toast. It's the perfect way to get your day started.

 Take a Cruise

We're not talking about driving around in the car, we're talking about Erie Canal Cruises. This isn't just a 'boat ride,' this is the ultimate way to see the Erie Canal and learn about it's history. You'll hear stories about the canal from how it was constructed, why it was called "Clinton's ditch," why it's still important to New York, and more. After a nice cruise along the Erie Canal, it may be fun to get out and walk around a bit. Head into Ilion to see Historic Main Street - A very unique area that's like walking back in time. Now It's Time for a Treat

How could a summer weekend be complete without a little ice cream? Stop by the Ice Cream Station in Ilion for some amazing ice cream creations. Whether you want a regular ice cream cone or something special, they have you covered. Maybe try one of their amazing specialty sundaes like "Campfire S'more" or "Red Velvet" (which actually contains a piece of red velvet cake under the ice cream and marshmallow fluff). Or you could spice up your ice cream cone by getting it dipped, adding toppings (like sprinkles, peanuts or crushed candies), or by getting a 'decorated' waffle cone.

Wrap Up the Night with a Drink

There are plenty of places throughout Herkimer, Ilion, Frankfort and the rest of the Valley to pick up a drink or two. Maybe relax at the Salty Shamrock in Herkimer for a cold one and throw some darts, or shoot a game of pool. You could stop by Belly Up Pub in Herkimer, as well - They just reopened their doors. Maybe take a drive into Little Falls and hit up The Happen Inn Sports Bar and Grill.
