Pet owners, it's the most wonderful time of the year for dogs. However, there are certain treats and gifts you shouldn't allow your dog to eat. Here's a look at foods to avoid giving them.

1) Nutmeg

The AVA warns that nutmeg can cause dogs to suffer from tremors, seizures, issues with the nervous system and even death. While you're adding it to cookies and drinks, watch where it spills off too.

2) Chocolate

Most pet owners are already aware of the chocolate thing, but that doesn't mean your dog can't find it. Chocolate can be highly toxic to your dog (or cat), watch where you put these treats.

3) Types Of Meats

Turkey skin, pork crackling, sausages and fatty meats should all be avoided by the dog. These can all lead to inflammation of the pancreas due to high fat content.

4) Alcohol

It just isn't Christmas sometimes with out the booze right? According to the AVA though, even small amounts of alcohol can kill a pet. Watch where you leave your half-empty glasses, and keep them out of reach.

5) Onions and Garlic

Usually you would think people wouldn't give this to their dogs, but dogs can find these. Both onions and garlic can cause gastric irritation and anemia if eaten in large quantities. If they eat stuffing, make sure there isn't a ton of this inside of it.
