The Strangest Baseball Injuries of All Time

My wife and I were down in Fort Myers last week and she–being a huge Boston Red Sox fan–insisted we go and watch the team work out and take batting practice while we snapped some pics. The talk of the camp though was about Sox prospect Bruce Brentz who has had to sit out spring training after shooting himself in the leg while (supposedly) cleaning his gun. You think that ballplayer injury was weird? Check these out!
–Pittsburgh pitcher Francisco Liriano finally revealed this month that he’s been rehabbing a broken arm since Christmas. The cause of that injury? Liriano was pounding on a door in an attempt to scare his kids.
–Former New York Met Kevin Mitchell, missed the start of spring training in 1990 because he hurt his teeth trying to eat a microwaved doughnut.
–Former Yankee outfielder Glenallen Hill injured himself while running from a nightmare in which he was being chased by spiders, only to wake up in a real-life nightmare in which he shattered a glass table and fell down the stairs.
– Hall of Fame great Rickey Henderson once got frostbite — in August. Henderson fell asleep with an ice pack on his foot, resulting in nerve damage and a three-game absence from the lineup
These are just a sampling of the weird injuries the stalwarts of our national pastime have incurred. There are plenty more so click here to get the list.
