The Best Johnny Depp Movies-Matt’s 5 Favorites
Johnny Depp has proven himself to be one of the most versatile and talented actors of his generation. His latest film, “Dark Shadows”, in which he plays vampire Barnabas Collins opens today. I have put together a list of my 5 favorite Johnny Depp movies and although they may not be his best or most popular show his creative ability in building unforgettable characters.
Pirates of the Caribbean
I admit I have never seen this movie in its entirety but the parts I did see were terrific. Captain Jack Sparrow's look was inspired by Rolling Stone Keith Richards but the character was all Johnny's creation.
What's Eating Gilbert Grape
This movie was probably better known for introducing the incredible acting skills of Leonardo DiCaprio but Johnny's understated performance and the poignant story line won it acclaim as a cult favorite.
Donnie Brasco
This film was based on the true story of an undercover FBI agent infiltrating the mafia. Johnny's acting skills were tested as he had several scenes with the amazingly talented Al Pacino and held his own in all of them.
Edward Scissorhands
Johnny was unrecognizable as the man-made title character but his acting made this fantasy film almost believable. Another unforgettable creation.
Ed Wood
Johnny played real life director Ed Wood--best known for one of the worst movies ever made, "Plan 9 From Outer Space"--in thi admittedly quirky film. The pencil thin mustache and over the top optimism of the title character helped overcome some people's reluctance to see a black and white movie.
