October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and it is the perfect month to hold the 3rd annual AK5k. This Run & Walk is constantly growing and is a great way to raise awareness of this terrible epidemic and to raise money for charities close to the heart of Alex Kogut.

There have always been rumblings and concerns about where the money goes for this race, but it has been confirmed that this money goes to The Community Foundation. Alex's family then chooses what charities that money then goes to. According to Alex's mom the money raised from last year's event went to Dollars for Scholars, The Kelberman Center to buy pool equipment, book bags for Thea Bowman Center, the literacy program, and Inlet Public Beach where Alex was once a lifeguard.

If you're looking to still participate in this awesome run you can still register online or race day at 7:30 a.m. Both the walk and run begin promptly at 10 a.m. The race is taking place on the Campus of SUNY PI. Feel free to visit the AK5k website for more details! 'Make Life Beautiful - Remember Alex.'
