It was only the second year for the AK5k, but it was a successful one. Not only was the weather beautiful, but the turnout was phenomenal and we were happy to be there to enjoy the day. The SUNY PI (SUNY IT) campus wasn't the only place people were running in Alex Kogut's memory either!

This Year The AK5k Attracted:

  • 900 Runners and Walkers
  • 200 Volunteers
  • 500 Spectators

Those numbers are huge considering this was only the second year of the event. These numbers definitely impressed Race-Director Jenifer Bowman who still has donations coming in and does not yet have a total dollar amount raised, however you can see with the number of people who came out in support that it will most likely be pretty high.

The SUNY Campus is not the only spot a 5k run took place on Sunday in Alex's memory. According to Bowman, there were satellite runs that took place in 3 other countries and various states across the U.S.

  • 9 Runners in Italy
  • 2 Runners in Australia
  • 1 Runner in France
  • 30 Runners in Different States Across America

It warms your heart to see all those people take time to honor a remarkable young woman whose life was taken way too soon.

Included in the opening ceremonies was a balloon launch and this year it was done to the Carrie Underwood song "See You Again." What a beautiful sight to see.

Hopefully this event will continue to grow and continue to be a huge success for years to come. Hats off to everyone who worked hard to make this day possible.
