We all like those old-fashioned home remedies.  Some work, and some don't.  As for me, I did get a flu shot just to play it safe, and now there's news of how green tea may, and I stress the word  may, help prevent the flu.

"Flu season is here again, but you can help keep the bug at bay by gargling with green tea. That's what researchers in Japan discovered during a study of nursing home residents who gargled with green tea three times a day for three months. Scientists believe compounds in green tea called catechins have anti-viral properties, and gargling exposes the flu germs to the therapeutic team more effectively than just drinking it. "(Globe)
