May 9, 2011 His time was short. Just five years into a promising career Keith Whitley lost his battle with alcoholism on May 9 1989 at age 33. His first album, "Hard Act To Follow" in 1984 failed to garner much interest but with the 1986 release of "L.A To Miami" his star began to rise. At the time of his death he had a string of three consecutive number ones, a string that continued posthumously with two more making it five straight chart-toppers.
