One of the most successful singer/songwriters in both country and pop music is Kris Kristofferson, and today is his 76th birthday. We begin today's "Country Classic Double" at 11:30 a.m. with a song he wrote and Sammi Smith recorded,  "Help Me Make It Through The Night", which went to number one in 1971. You may remember when he was recording with the Highwaymen (along with friends Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings), so we'll feature a song recorded by them as well.

Waylon Jennings may have passed away over 10 years ago but his music continues to live on. Now, according to the Los Angeles Times, an album of songs recorded shortly before he died will be released in September. The collection, "Goin' Down Rockin': The Last recordings of  Waylon Jennings" will consist of 12 songs eleven of which were written by Waylon.  Jessi Colter, Waylon's widow, says the songs were written and sung with heartfelt emotion.

The  new Waylon Jennings tribute album "The Music Inside: A Collaboration Dedicated to Waylon Jennings Volume 2" will be released on Feb. 7. According to CMT the follow up to Volume 1 of the expected trilogy will feature established country stars as well as several newcomers performing the songs that Waylon made famous.

A compilation of Waylon Jennings songs entitled "The Music Inside: A Collaboration Dedicated to Waylon Jennings Volume 1" will be available on Tuesday February 8th. The tribute collection will feature a number of classic and contemporary country performers including Randy Houser who chose to record "I'm A Ramblin' Man" because it related to his own life.

Country group, Alabama has reunited for at least one song.   A Waylon Jennings tribute album will be in stores February of next year.  One of the songs will feature Alabama's rendition of "Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way."
