Final Days Until Tour de Cure Sunday

Ok, I'm starting to get nervous. We're just five days away from the Tour de Cure bike ride from Verona Beach State Park and I don't think I'm ready. 15 miles is a long way for someone who hasn't been on a bike in almost 20 years. I've been out a few times but not enough to be prepared for a 15 mile ride. I just haven't found time to get the training in and when I did have time, it would rain. Bets are being taken around our house on what mile I'll go down at.

It's National Ride to Work Day and 450 riders are using the day to ride 100 miles in the Ride for Missing Children today. But in a few weeks it'll be time for the Tour de Cure. Thankfully I only have to ride 15 miles.

It's getting closer. The Tour de Cure at Verona Beach State Park is June 3rd and I haven't really started training yet. Oh, I've been on my bike from Schuss Ski & Bike Shop a few times, but not enough to be ready for a 15 mile ride. However, the weather hasn't been all that nice recently. I did manage to get on the bike yesterday afternoon since it was so nice, and I rode for a whole hour. I'm not even sore today. So, that's a good sign.

Trailer Choir's Big Vinny Donates Biggest Loser Workout Shirt to Tour de Cure

Trailer Choir's Big Vinny went from a Type 2 diabetic, weighing 450 pounds to a healthy 240 pounds thanks to the Biggest Loser. And now he's giving back. Vinny donated his Biggest Loser workout shirt before he lost all his weight for the Tour de Cure. Don't worry, he washed it first. I smelled it. But the shirt does have a tear in the bottom. I wonder if he ripped it in a fit of anger.

There's no time like the present. Since we've had such unusually nice weather in March, I thought I'd get a jump start on training for the Tour de Cure June 3rd. If I'm going to ride 15 miles in the Tour de Cure, I'll need a bike. Thankfully Dan at Schuss Ski & Bike Shop in New Hartford has bikes and knows all about them. He even set me up with special biking shoes and shorts with the padding in all the rights spots, thank goodness. 15 miles is hard on your behind.

The things I get myself into. First it was rappelling over the Adirondack Bank Building for Special Olympics. Now it's bike riding for the American Diabetes Association in the Tour de Cure June 3rd at Verona Beach State Park. Since it's such a great cause, I couldn't say no, but bikes and I just don't get along. The last time I was on a bicycle was when I was 15 and it ended with a concussion and a trip to the emergency room. Hopefully now that I'm older, I'm wiser too, so I'll wear a helmet.
