Summer Events

One of the signature Central New York summer events, The Utica Maennerchor Bavarian Festival, kicked off last night and continues through the weekend. Great food--including many German favorites--music and drink--again, including many German favorites-- make this annual festival behind the club on Flanagan Road in Marcy a favorite family fun event. The weather during the "Frog Days of Summer" has been ideal for so many outdoor events, and it's looking good again for tonight's Saranac Thursday. My good friend and colleague Matt Herkimer and I attended last week's Saranac Thursday to cheer on fellow Frog DJ James Pond and his band. Tonight, music is provided by "Crazy Fools". (hmmmm...I'm glad that wasn't in the same sentence with Matt and me).

For most of the year Lowville is a sleepy little community of around 4,000 people. However for one day in September the village comes alive with what Trip Advisor calls one of America's "10 wackiest summer events", its annual Cream Cheese Festival. The event is appropriately located in Lowville, the home of the world's largest Kraft Cream Cheese manufacturing plant. What are the other "wacky" summer events?

While we're still a few months away from this year's Utica Boilermaker Road Race (Sunday, July 8), you can participate by sharing memories of Boilermakers passed. Many of us who have lived in central New York for several years have been a part of the Boilermaker in some way - running, cheering or sharing the celebration of family and friends entered in the race.
