Star Trek New Movie – A Sneak Peek

My wife and I are Trekkers (that's the proper word, not Trekkies), so when a new Star Trek film is on the way, we're excited about it. Even though "Star Trek, Into Darkness" doesn't open until May 17th, for Trekkers that means it's almost here! We're both fans of the "classic cast" featuring William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy (Kirk and Spock), so we're even more interested in the new films as the story line is about the early days of those characters.

Who Is Your Favorite Monster?

With Halloween this week, monster movies are showing up on Cable just about every night. We all have a favorite monster (from the movies, not someone you work with). As a kid growing up in Utica, every Saturday my friends and I would head down to the Avon, Olympic or Rialto Theater to watch a monster movie double feature. Rumor has it that some of us had to sleep with the night light on that night. So, who is my favorite monster?

“Hocus Pocus” – Our Favorite Halloween Movie

When it comes to Halloween movies, the hands-down favorite in the Greg "Splashin'" McShea household is the 1993 film, "Hocus Pocus". If you've never seen it, it's a comedy that features Bette Midler at her witchiest best, along with Sarah Jessica Parker (before her starring role in "Sex And the City").

Wizard Of Oz Debuted 73 Years Ago Today

One of everyone's favorite movies is "The Wizard Of Oz", and on this day in 1939, it made its debut. The film propelled the career of 16 year old Judy Garland and became a classic film in American culture. I can still remember sitting on the gymnasium floor as a kid in second grade at Miller School (now Martin Luther King, Jr. School) in Utica as we watched it for the first time.

Titanic Set Sail Onscreen On This Day In 1997

One of the most incredible films of all time, Jame Cameron's "Titanic" debuted in theaters on this day in 1997. I've always been fascinated with the Titanic and still watch all those shows on TV about new theories on how it sunk. Maybe you attended the Big Frog 104's "Titanic Experience" on the 99th Titanic Anniversary this past April at the Stanley Theater, in downtown Utica.

Munchkin Dies At Age 93

A sad day for " Oz" Fans. One of the last  "Munchkins" from "The Wizard of Oz" film, Karl Slover, died at age 93. My daughter Lauren is a big "Oz" fan and met Mr. Slover (as seen in the photo) this past June at Oz-Stravaganza in Chittenango. Notice the resemblance? (No, not Karl Slover and me, my daughter and me).
