Motorcylists Over 60 At Higher Risk For Serious Injuries

It's a lot more common than it used to be. Back in 1990 one in 10 bikers was over 50, now it's one in 4 and those demographics are coming at a price. A study done by Brown University has found that older bikers--while safer riders overall--were significantly at higher risk for hospitalization after an accident.

North Country Man Enters Motorcycle Cannonball Run

If you're old enough to remember the Burt Reynolds film "Cannonball Run" back in 1981 you're probably going to appreciate what a North Country man, Erik Dunk of Adams Center, is going to do beginning tomorrow. YNN reports that Dunk has entered the 16 day, 3,800 mile Pre-1930 Motorcycle Cannonball Endurance Run race from New York to San Francisco for vintage motorcycles. Did I say vintage? Erik will be riding a 1929 Harley Davidson JD. What could possibly be his motivation?

CNY Man Dies Of Head Injury During Motorcycle Helmet Law Protest

It is one of the most hotly debated issues amongst motorcycle riders, law enforcement and insurance carriers. Should riders be required to wear a helmet. Saturday a Parish man was tragically killed when his bike flipped over and he hit his head on the pavement during a helmet law protest in the Town of Onondaga near Syracuse. According to an article in the Syracuse Post Standard Phillip Contos was not wearing a helmet.

It used to be that women were strictly passengers when it came to motorcycles. No longer. According to MSN women now own 12.3% of all motorcycles an increase of 28% since 2003 and make up 23% of motorcyclists up from 18% over the past five years. It is only fitting that July has become Women's Motorcycle Month.
