Mohawk Valley Flooding 2013

A big thank you to everyone who stopped by Summit Cars in Oneida this morning to donate to the Mohawk Valley Flood Fund.  A special thanks to Mark for coming in and helping me set up before the sun was even up and Bob who became Jeremiah B Frog to collect donations on the street.

The Herkimer County Emergency Operations Center issued the following release shortly before 11am on Tuesday July 2, 2013, regarding Point of Distribution locations for food, water and shelter:

Herkimer County Community College remains closed today, Tuesday, July 2, 2013 because of flooding.

On Monday night (July 1, 2013) the levee that holds back Bellinger Brook in the village of Herkimer had been compromised and was in danger of failing.

Another night of rain is testing the resolve of emergency crews and residents throughout the area.

The last thing central New York needed was more rain. But, on Monday, the area got hit once again with not just sprinkles, but heavy rainfall, and more is forecast Tuesday and Wednesday.

Cleanup continues for much of the Mohawk Valley as residents recover from last week's flooding.

Herkimer County Community College remains closed today, Monday, July 1, 2013 because of flooding.

Many homes, vehicles and businesses in Oneida, NY have been devastated by severe flooding. Fortunately, none of the residents WIBX spoke to said they knew of any injuries to their neighbors.

A Facebook community page called 'CNY Flooding June 2013' set up just this morning to share photos, video and information about the historic flooding that has hit Utica, the Mohawk Valley and Central New York has gained more than 6,000 fans as of 2PM.

The cleanup from the flooding is underway in Whitesboro.

Here's raw footage of clean-up operations going on Friday at the Ilion Marina following heavy rains overnight.  Flooding has caused severe damage and closures all over the Mohawk Valley region.
