We have a special theme for today's "Country Classic Double" at 11:30 a.m., saluting you, the American worker on Labor Day. And we've got two great songs to do that. We begin with Alabama's number one song in 1985 "Forty Hour Week (For A Livin')". We'll finish the Double with Merle Haggard's "Workin' Man Blues", a number one back in 1969.

Most of us look at Labor Day weekend with mixed emotions. We like the fact that it is a three day weekend but a little saddened by the realization that summer is pretty much over. Sara Evans, on the other hand, looks forward to it for both reasons. She likes the long weekend aspect of Labor Day weekend but also likes the fact that summer is over. Sara says the latter feeling is based on her childhood growing up on a farm.

Labor Day has been an official national holiday since 1894 when President Grover Cleveland signed a proclamation making the first Monday in September a day to recognize and salute the contributions of the working men and women who helped make this nation great.
