The second leg of the "Triple Crown" of horse racing is Saturday, when the 138th Preakness Stakes takes place at historic Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. Before "they're off", a special concert will take place today in Pimlico's infield featuring country performers Rodney Atkins (former FrogFest headliner) and Rachel Farley.

If you like horse racing, and even if you don't, the Kentucky Derby is one event that is worth watching. The 139th "Run For The Roses", as it called and first leg of the "Triple Crown" of horse racing is Saturday. Women wearing large brimmed hats, the playing of "My Old Kentucky Home", all with the backdrop of historic Churchill Downs in Louisville add to the magic.

Late breaking news according to CNN, “I’ll Have Another” has been scratched from Saturday’s 144th Belmont Stakes, so no Triple Crown Winner again this year. The last Triple Crown horse was Affirmed in 1978. It’s the final leg of the triple crown at historic Belmont Park in Elmont, New York this Saturday, post time 6:35 [...]

You didn't have to be a betting man or woman to experience goose bumps while watching Secretariat win the Belmont Stakes by 31 lengths to complete horse racing's Triple Crown on this day, June 9, 1973. The big chesnut 3-year old became the first horse in twenty-five years to win the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont Stakes all in dominating fashion and endearing himself to the entire nation. The 136th running of the Preakness Stakes takes place today, post time 6:20pm. I just checked the weather forecast for Baltimore, Maryland, home of Pimlico Race Course, and it looks like a great day for horse racing. The forecast calls for partly sunny conditions, high about 83, cooling down to 68 degrees by early evening. So, looks like the mudders have no real advantage.
