Thank Goodness It’s Utica Monday Nite
Monday is a reality check for most of us. It's back to work or your regular schedule, but during the Frog Days of Summer, we can look forward to free entertainment each week, thanks to Utica Monday Nite.

It's probably the most common food we eat for lunch...the sandwich. During the Frog Days of Summer, we observe National Sandwich Month throughout August. We all have our favorites, and mine is a corned beef sandwich or Reuben (with a name like McShea, what did you expect)?
The Frog Days of Summer keep rolling along with a variety of events throughout central New York. You may have attended a Saranac Thursday, and if not, you're in for music and fun.
During the Frog Days of Summer, there's great weather to "go fly a kite". When my wife and I were on vacation a couple of weeks ago, as we sat on the beach, we would see moms, dads and kids flying their kites.
Summertime, and the living is easy. Is it? Well, maybe if you're on vacation. If you're spending y0ur workday with us during the Frog Days of Summer, we like to take a break during "Greg's Grill" request hour and offer some food for thought.
During the Frog Days of Summer, I'm glad I'm not swimming in the ocean this week (as I was a couple of weeks ago on vacation), as it's "Shark Week" all this week on The Discovery Channel. I look forward to this every year, and it amazes me how TDC can find new ways to show sharks on TV.
I'm not trying to pry, but Woman's Day Magazine has asked it's readers "Where did you spend your summer vacation"? The McShea family always prefers a summer vacation where there's water, and plenty of it. There are plenty of Frog Days of Summer left, so maybe this can give you an insight into how you might spend your vacation.
I remember years ago, just about everybody who had a backyard had a croquet set. And, it was always important to make sure you picked up all those metal wickets after you played, so your dad wouldn't trip on them or hit them while mowing the lawn. But, does anyone really know how to play croquet?
It used to be that Monday was washday, back-to-work day, or blue Monday, but thanks to Utica Monday Nite, that's changed. Each Monday night, dowtown Utica become the site of interesting walks and talks, tours, live music and more.
If you're renting a camp during the Frog Days of Summer, a rainy day can be a true test of character. I recall as a kid, my family renting a camp for a week in Sylvan Beach, Old Forge and Inlet. It was lots of fun with the swimming, hiking, exploring, boat rides and more, but then we would always be faced with a rainy day. Now what?
As my dear old Irish dad used to say, "There are two kinds of Irish - those that are and those that want to be". Well, with a name like McShea, there's no doubt my Irish heritage, and this weekend we can all become Irish wanna-bees at the annual Great American Irish Festival.
Is it Thursday already? That means it's time for Saranac Thursday. Each week, friends meet friends at the F.X. Matt Brewery at the corner of Court and Varick Streets in Utica for music and fun. It's another signature event of the Frog Days of Summer.
