9-Year-Old Football Star Sam Gordon Headed to the Super Bowl
The big star at the 2013 Super Bowl may very well be a nine-year-old girl.

Many of our area local colleges have finished their regular season of football, but Colgate and Syracuse University continue this weekend. The Red Raiders have an impressive 7-3 record and play their last game of the season on the road Saturday, when they take on Fordham Univesrity (6-4) in the Bronx, New York. Game time: 1:00 p.m.
For some of our area colleges, this is that last weekend of the regular football season! Utica College Pioneers are at home Saturday afternoon for Senior Day, when they take on St. John Fisher (6-3) at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium at 1:00 p.m. UC has had a great season, with a 6-3 record.
Stadium negations continue between the Buffalo Bills and various government agencies in Western New York. Will the team renew a lease for Ralph Wilson Stadium with Erie County or could a long rumored new stadium be in the works?
One of my all-time favorite NFL quarterbacks is Doug Flutie. Even at a height of 5'10", Flutie could throw the long one, rush for that first down and score touchdowns. I saw him play in person a few times when he was quarterback for the Bufffalo Bills. Flutie will always be remembered for that incredible "Hail Mary Pass" as QB for Boston College in a win against the Miami Hurricanes. Currently, you can see Doug Flutie as a college football TV analyst for NBC Sports. And, I own a few boxes of "Flutie Flakes" breakfast cereal, of which proceeds went to the Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation For Autism.
On this day in 1941, the penalty flag was first introduced into the game of football in the U.S.A.. Before the penalty flag, referees used horns and whistles to indicate an infraction, but the problem was that the fans didn't know that the game stopped because of a penalty.
When Tammy Faile and her two children were chosen as the military family of the game for South Carolina's match up Saturday against the University of Georgia, they probably expected some sort of message from their husband and father Sgt. First Class Scott Faile, who is stationed in South Korea.
And that's what they got at halftime, a video message on the University of South Carolina’s Williams-Brice stadium's Jumbotron.
The Houston Texans remain unbeaten after beating the New York Jets for the first time in team history, 23-17, on Monday night football. Good news for The Texans: they now join the Atlanta Falcons as the NFL's only teams without a loss this season. Bad news for the Jets: we still play Mark Sanchez.
I was at the game Sunday and it really did look like the Buffalo Bills simply gave up in the fourth quarter. One thing that really sticks out in my mind is while waiting to get past security, a Patriots fan yelled, "Who did you beat? Cleveland and KC? Whipity Doo!" I thought, good point. And now the Bills must take on another tough opponent Sunday, The San Francisco 49ers.
There is a consensus developing that if NFL commissioner Roger Goodell doesn't bring back the striking referees soon, folks are going to stop watching football because the replacement refs have been so stunningly horrible. However, we're pretty sure this isn't true. In fact, the awfulness of the scab refs has now become part what makes the NFL so entertaining. (Granted, Green Bay fans or anybody who bet on the Packers Monday night would probably disagree.)
Jets fans get ready for the worst news of the day; It’s been confirmed by head coach Rex Ryan that Darrelle Revis will miss the rest of the 2012 season with a torn ACL.
If you remember the Pittsburgh Steelers of the 1970s, Terry Bradshaw and all, you'll remember "Mean Joe" Greene. Greene played for the Steelers and was part of the "Steel Curtain" defense. He's 66 years old today, but for all of his football fame, Greene may be best remembered for an emotional Coca-Cola TV commercial, where he shows kindness to young fan.
