With the coming of the new year there is always some economic uncertainty. A question most of us ask is "what is going up in price and what will stay the same". Obviously most things eventually go up in price (except, it seems, large screen TV's and electronic gizmos) but what can be expect those items to be. NBC's "Today" takes a look at what might cost more and what might stay the same.

If it's true that an apple a day keeps the doctor away it will start costing you a little more to avoid that office visit now that the prices of those apples is going up. YNN reports that this years apple harvest came up a little short resulting in higher prices for your favorite macouns, red delicious and cortlands not to mention apple cider and apple pies. The reason for the shortfall?

Popcorn Prices on the Rise

Bad news for movie goers. No, there isn't a new Pauly Shore movie coming out, worse. According to Reuters the cost of popcorn will be going up due to the drought conditions blanketing the midwest. "This is the worst season we've ever had," said third-generation popcorn purveyor Mark Shew, who runs the family's farm in Vigo County, Illinois. The report points out that it's not just movie theater popcorn that will see the increase.

We are all aware at just how much the price of gas has gone up but how about other everyday essentials. The Bureau of Labor Statistics latest report shows that prices for all six grocery food groups rose during March. Fox Business looked at the cost of various food items over the years and how much they have gone up.

You might not find that your grocery shopping tab isn't going up as dramatically as some reports say but you may notice that your bag of goods isn't as heavy as it used to be. The reason? Food retailers are maintaining their prices on some goods but lessening the product size. We found a few examples courtesy of "Consumer Reports" magazine.
