While I'm not exactly a master angler, I do enjoy fishing now and then in the scenic streams and creeks of central and northern New York. One of the best days I ever remember was April 1st.,1969, when my friend Guy and I went trout fishing at West Canada Creek on opening day, catching our limit of brown trout. Trout fishing season begins Monday, April 1st.

Hunting and Fishing Gaining In Popularity

The number of people of hunt and fish had been declining over the past few decades but apparently that is no longer the case. The Department of the Interior's U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s 2011 National Survey of Fishing, Hunting, and Wildlife-Associated Recreation found that hunters nationwide increased by 9 percent while anglers grew by 11 percent. This is seen as good news for certain sectors of the economy.

Ice Fishing Group Rescued From Oneida Lake

We've all heard that phrase but it took a literal turn Wednesday when, according to YNN, 6 adults and 2 children were rescued from Oneida Lake after a slab of ice they were fishing on broke free from the shoreline and began drifting.
