UPDATE 10:05am - Authorities say that 5 to 15 people may have died in last night's massive explosion at the West Fertilizer Plant in West, Texas. Many more, perhaps more than 160, were injured.

Utica firefighters were called to a large blaze on the city's west side late on Sunday evening. The fire, reported on the UFD's facebook page to be at 1207 Whitesboro Street, was brought under control early Monday morning.
Officials say pyrotechnics set off by the band Gurizada Fandangueira started a fire that killed 233 people in southern Brazil early Sunday morning (Jan. 27). Many more are being treated for injuries as crews dig through the debris at the Kiss nightclub in Santa Maria.
Firefighters from Holland-Patent and surrounding communities are battling a blaze at a structure on Route 365. Scanner reports indicate the structure is the window dealer RA Dudrack.

August 2, 2012 A major fire at the former Union Tools factory in Frankfort had a number of firefighters, from several counties on scene for hours. The smoke could be seen for miles. The fire destroyed a number of buildings on the property but no one was injured.
February 10, 2012 The massive fire at the South Utica Sports Plex not only left the members of the Central New York Roller Derby League without a practice facility but destroyed thousands of dollars worth of their equipment. According to their website the league--which plays its home games at the RFK Rink in Rome--had just recently begun using the facility as a practice site and had stored much of it gear there.
February 9, 2012 On my drive into Big Frog 104 studios this morning, I encountered bumper-to-bumper traffic going north on the North-South Arterial in South Utica. There was single lane traffic due to an accident and the early morning fire at the South Utica Sports Plex on French Road. I could see the smoldering building with caved in roof from the car and realized that the fire must have been quite extensive.
