Treatment was not going well for the volunteer fireman so he took stock of his "bucket list" and decided that going to the Daytona 500 was right on top. With the full realization that he only had days to live Mitch and several family members hit the highway from their home in Pennsylvania and headed for Daytona.

February 22, 2013 It's the "Great American Race, the granddaddy of NASCAR's Sprint Cup circuit, the 55th annual Daytona 500, and it promises to be a spectacular event this Sunday. The Zac Brown Band will perform before the race with band member Clay Cook doing the National Anthem. Then shortly after 1, pole sitter Danica Patrick and the best drivers in the world will fire their engines. How about a little pre-race trivia from YahooSports to whet the appetite.
Danica Patrick has made history again. Patrick became the first woman to win the pole at any race in NASCAR's top circuit. Patrick set the mark with a lap at 196.434 mph and will be on the pole for the Daytona 500 next Sunday.

February 28, 2012 It was a night to remember at Daytona International Speedway. The Daytona 500--twice delayed by rain--finally began at 7PM and when the smoke had cleared Matt Kenseth had captured the checkered flag for the second straight year. Dale Jr. came in second followed by Greg Biffle. However the most spectacular moment of the night occurred when Juan Pablo Montoya crashed into a dryer truck full of jet fuel which burst into flames . Check out the video.
February 27, 2012 There is a first time for everything and now for the first time in its 54 year history The Daytona 500 was cancelled Sunday due to rain. NASCAR officials tried to wait out the storm but by 5pm it was obvious that there would be no racing at Daytona International. More rain is expected today but officials are hoping to wave the green flag at noon today. Needless to say the drivers are as anxious as anybody to get underway.

Trevor Bayne , who celebrated his 20th birthday yesterday, became the youngest driver to ever win the grand-daddy of auto racing, The Daytona 500. Carl Edwards finished 2nd followed by David Gilliland.
