We finish up with Merle Haggard's "Workin' Man Blues", a number one hit in 1969. The "Bakersfield Sound" was a certain style associated with artists from Bakersfield, California.

We lead off with George Jones' big hit back in 1964 "The Race Is On". I know the the Heart Run/Walk isn't a race, but that tune is a great running song. We follow it up with Leroy Van Dyke's number one song from 1961 "Walk On By".
February 28, 2012 Singer-songwriter Joe South, who had pop hits in the 60s and 70s like "Games People Play", is 72 years old today. We'll begin our "Country Classic Double" at 11:30 a.m. with a song Joe South had written, and which Lynn Anderson had a number one hit in 1970 "(I Never Promised You a) Rose Garden".
February 17, 2012 Why not add a little sunshine to our "Country Classic Double" at 11:30 a.m. That's our lead off song today, "Country Sunshine" by Dottie West, which also was used in a 1970s Coca-Cola TV commercial.
February 16, 2012 One of Kenny Rogers' biggest hits on both country and pop charts is "Coward of the County". It went to number one on the country charts in 1980, and on this day in that same year, the song was number one on the pop charts in England, and stayed there for two weeks. February 14, 2012 Today is a day of hearts and flowers, as we observe Valentine's Day. I still remember when I was a kid exchanging valentines in school (you know the bag of 1oo mini valentines for 99 cents)? And I recall my wife and I helping our kids fill out all of those little valentines for their classmates.
