Country Classic Double

Singer-songwriter Joe South, who had pop hits in the 60s and 70s like "Games People Play", is 72 years old today. We'll begin our "Country Classic Double" at 11:30 a.m. with a song Joe South had written, and which Lynn Anderson had a number one hit in 1970 "(I Never Promised You a) Rose Garden".

Why not add a little sunshine to our "Country Classic Double" at 11:30 a.m. That's our lead off song today, "Country Sunshine" by Dottie West, which also was used in a 1970s Coca-Cola TV commercial.

One of Kenny Rogers' biggest hits on both country and pop charts is "Coward of the County". It went to number one on the country charts in 1980, and on this day in that same year, the song was number one on the pop charts in England, and stayed there for two weeks. Today is a day of hearts and flowers, as we observe Valentine's Day. I still remember when I was a kid exchanging valentines in school (you know the bag of 1oo mini valentines for 99 cents)? And I recall my wife and I helping our kids fill out all of  those little valentines for their classmates. We begin the "Double" with Rosanne's number one hit back in 1981 "Seven Year Ache" and finish with Johnny's number one from 1964, "Understand Your Man" (my favorite Johnny Cash song).

Over the years, we've enjoyed the music of Garth Brooks on Big Frog 104, and today he celebrates his 50th birthday. Music critics credit Garth Brooks as a game changer in country music when he came on the scene.Today on our "Country Classic Double", we're featuring one of Garth's number one songs back in 1991, "Shameless".

Today, we kick off our "Country Classic Double" with Pam Tillis and her number one song twenty years ago today, "Maybe It Was Memphis". While having a famous father (Mel Tillis) made her name more familiar to the country audience, Pam had a successful solo career on her own.

Today, we begin our "Country Classic Double" with a classic hit from Jeanne Pruett, who is celebrating her 75th birthday today. We're featuring "Satin Sheets", which went to number one on the country charts in 1973.

We lead off with one of my favorites, Glen Campbell's "Rhinestone Cowboy", which went to number one on the country charts in 1975, and was a huge pop hit as well.

Today, we kick of the "Country Classic Double" at 11:30 a.m. with Dolly Parton's number one song this week back in 1981 "9 to 5". The song was a big pop hit as well, considering that it was the title song from the motion picture, which starred Dolly.

Ronnie Milsap is an artist whose music has such a wide appeal, that his songs have become hits on both county and pop charts. On today's "Country Classic Double" at 11:30 a.m.., we lead off with Ronnie's number one hit on this day back in 1982, "I Wouldn't Have Missed It For The World".
