Country Classic Double

The "Frog Days of Fall" once again reveal another country celebrity birthday. Today, C.W. McCall, the artist who gave us that memorable CB radio song, "Convoy" is 83 years old. Today, we'll feature his number one song from 1975 on our "Country Classic Double".

From time to time, I get feedback about artists you'd like to hear on the "Country Classic Double", weekdays at 11:30 a.m.  One name keeps coming up is Conway Twitty. So, today he'll lead of the Double with his number 1 hit from 1973: "You've Never Been This Far Before".

Our Big Frog 104 "Country Classic Double" lives up to its name each day, presenting classic country artists and their memorable music. Today, we feature "The Green, Green Grass of Home", a big country hit in 1965 by the legendary Porter Wagoner.

Our "Country Classic Double" today features country artist Lee Greenwood, who is celebrating his 68th birthday. While Lee has had numerous country hits, he's best remembered for his patriotic: "God Bless The USA", a song that became an anthem for our country in the days following 9/11.

Today, our "Country Classic Double" features music from famous brothers acts. And one of the most famous and successful are the Everly Brothers, Don and Phil. Of course, The Everly Brothers had a number of hits that crossed over to both pop and country charts, and the two brothers' harmonizing style became the inspiration for a number of musical duos over the years.

You really start to feel old when the child-stars of show business are in their 50s. Today, Tanya Tucker, who recorded her big hit "Delta Dawn" when she was just 13 years old is celebrating her 53rd birthday. Now that's a good reason to feature her in today's "Country Classic Double" at 11:30 a.m.

Buck Owens and the Buckaroos were names to be reckoned with in country music, with that Bakersfield sound and unique style. At one time, Buck Owens co-hosted He-Haw with Roy Clark on CBS TV. Today, we feature one of Buck's signature songs on our "Country Classic Double" at 11:30 a.m.

Our Big Frog 104 "Country Classic Double" today at 11:30 a.m. is another "Waylon & Willie" Wednesday. Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson, "The Outlaws" had a great friendship and collaboration on a number of songs. One of their best is featured today..."Good Hearted Woman" which went to number one in 1976, and which Waylon  recorded earlier solo in 1972.

One of country music's biggest stars, Loretta Lynn is featured today on our Big Frog 104 "Country Classic Double" at 11:30 a.m. Her big number one hit in 1970: "Coal Miner's Daughter" is an autobiographical look at Loretta's life, and prompted a TV movie back in the 1970s of the same name.
