If you've been following the continuing saga of the home brew that our Big Frog 104 Production Director Geoff Storm has brewed, here's an update. Geoff has been carefully tending a home-brewed batch of Irish Red Ale, which has been "bottle conditioning" or aging for the past three weeks or so. And, last night, I was assigned the taste test. Of course, I accepted.
As a former brewery tour guide, I thought I'd get you up to date on "what's brewing" at my alma mater, the F.X. Matt Brewing Company. They've just released a new summer brew called Saranac Blueberry Blond Ale.
A couple of weeks ago, I mentioned that my friend and co-worker Geoff Storm, Big Frog 104's Production Director is quite the brewmaster. His current batch is a home-brewed Irish Red Ale.

Today is National Beer Day, and it may interest you to know that the very first beer to be sold in the U.S. after the repeal of Prohibition was Utica Club. The story goes that UC was for sale within an hour and a half of the repeal on this day back in 1933. (Shultz & Dooley would be proud).

It's the quiet time of the year, a month to go until St. Patrick's Day, and a couple of weeks away from America's Greatest Heart Run and Walk. Now, something new from Saranac to liven up the landscape...Saranac Chocolate Orange beer.
Ok, before we start breaking out the 12-packs, a new study now shows that beer may have similar health benefits as red wine. We've long heard that a modest amount of red wine a day may be good for our health, and apparently researchers are getting similar results with beer.
As we plod along through winter 2012, we see that there's another bright spot on the horizon from our local brewery. The F.X. Matt Brewing Company recently released its annual "What Ales You" variety 12-pack.
Here's something to look forward to during the "Frog Days of Winter", a new beer! The F.X. Matt Brewing Company has another new beer release now in stores. It's a hoppy addition called Saranac White IPA.
As a former tour guide, I take a keen interest in the new products and activities going on at the F.X. Matt Brewing Company. (Like I've always said, beer is thicker than water). On August 28th, the brewery along with friends of Saranac participated in a local hop picking event, and then brewed a special Saranac draft using the local ingredients.
Today, August 5th, is the day that the whole world joins Homer Simpson and millions of others to celebrate beer. According to the website International Beer Day some 278 celebrations across 23 countries will mark the occasion by drawing a refreshing cold one or two. Here in the United States we are fortunate to have hundreds, perhaps thousands, of beers to choose from including great local brews like Saranac, Utica Club and Ommegang. Check out some familiar beer jingles and a classic Utica Club commercial sure to bring back memories.
