Happy Valentine's Day. And, in order to serenade you and your sweetheart, we're featuring two love songs on our "Country Classic Double" today at 11:30 a.m. We'll begin with "Love Song" by Anne Murray and we'll complete the musical valentine with Charlie Rich and "A Very Special Love Song".

Songs For The Birds On Today's Classic Double

Now and then, we select an unusual category of country songs for our "Country Classic Double" at 11:30 a.m. Today, it's songs for the birds. We'll begin with Anne Murray's first big hit and signature song in 1970, "Snowbird" which also did quite well on pop charts. We'll follow it up with another bird song, Ferlin Husky's "Wings Of A Dove" from 1960.

We begin our "Country Classic Double" today at 11:30 a.m. with the birthday girl, Anne Murray, who is 67 years old today and her big hit from 1978, "You Needed Me". Anne is known as the "Canadian Songbird" and has one of the richest voices in both country and pop music (and is one of my favorites).

Today we're featuring cross-over hits on our "Country Classic Double" at 11:30 a.m. We begin with Bobby Goldsboro and "Honey", the number one country song on this day in 1968. The song also went to number one on the pop charts. We finish the double with Anne Murray and her number one country song in 1980, "Could I Have This Dance", which was also a big pop hit.

Ok, we're not double-crossing anyone, but today our "Country Classic Double" features two country hits that crossed over on pop music charts. We lead off with one of my favorites, Glen Campbell's "Rhinestone Cowboy", which went to number one on the country charts in 1975, and was a huge pop hit as well.

Between the years 1978 and 1986 there were few female country artists hotter than Anne Murray. During that nearly ten year span she recorded no fewer than 18 top ten country hits with 9 going all the way to number one. Winner of 4 Grammy's and 3 CMA Awards the Nova Scotia native was a fixture of both American and Canadian Television guest starring on a number of shows and hosting several specials of her own on CBC. One of her biggest hits continues to be played at anniversary parties everywhere. You know what song that is, don't you?

Who would you vote for as having the top Canadian song of the past 40 years. In celebration o fthe 40th anniversary of the Juno Awards, the Canadian Academy of Recording ARts and Sciences conducted the facebook poll. Shania Twain's "Any Man of Mine" and "Party for Two" are in the runnning along with six hits from Anne Murray including "Snow Bird," "Danny's Song" and "You Needed Me."

Since Shania Twain was the reason I started listening to country music, I'd have to give her my vote. I remember hearing "Any Man of Mine" and I was hooked. I've been a country fan ever since.
