Tonight, American Idol kicks off its 11th season with auditions in Savannah, Georgia. On Thursday, it's off to Pittsburgh for more. The eight audition episodes will also send judges Randy Jackson, Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez to Aspen, Galveston, Portland (Oregon), San Diego and St. Louis. Will they find more country stars like Scotty McCreery and Carrie Underwood, or will this season crown a winner who slips into oblivion like Lee Dewyze and Taylor Hicks.
It’s that time again, country fans! The 2012 season of ‘American Idol’ will kick off this January. It’ll be the show’s 11th season and let’s hope that this season follows the same trajectory as the last, when the final two contestants were country artists! Will Scotty McCreery‘s heir apparent make it to the top? Will we find our next Lauren Alaina? It’s certainly an exciting prospect, since country music dominated the show last season. American Idol's "resident rocker" as Ryan Seacrest likes to call him, Steven Tyler, made things interesting each week. He definately kept everyone on their toes, especially the director of the show, with his choice of words. I don't know about you, but he surprised me with his humor and sexy smile. He seemed to tame things down a bit after the audition process, but the idol sign was always ready to cover his mouth if necessary. His comments always cracked me up, especially his "duck" comment to Scotty McCreery in the beginning.
After a record-setting 122.4 million votes, it was country crooner Scotty McCreery who was named the winner of 'American Idol'.
The 17-year-old from Garner, NC, beat out 16-year-old Lauren Alaina to become the youngest 'American Idol' winner ever. He's also the fourth-consecutive male to win the reality-competition series, following David Cook, Kris Allen and Lee DeWyze. (The last female to win 'American Idol' was Jordin Sparks, in 2007.)

Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina will give us a country filled night on American Idol. They'll both sing new songs that will be officially released Thursday, a day after the winner is announced. The songs will also be available on iTunes Tuesday night after Idol airs. Scotty will sing "Love You This Big" and Lauren's song is called "Like My Mother Does." Each will sing two other songs, a favorite from the season and one chosen for them. Idol winner Carrie Underwood picked Lauren's song and Scotty choice came from George Strait.

Haley Reinhart was eliminated last night, making it the youngest finale in Idol history. Lauren is just 16 years old and Scotty is 17.
