We've already hit week 4 on our tour of CNY farms leaning 'Farm Hands'. This time we went to a horse farm outside of Bridgeport, Whispering Willows. It was a fun, exciting and a "walk in the park" until it came time to muck stalls. That's when the real work started.

Whispering Willows could almost qualify as a rescue farm, as they have much more than horses. Miniature horses and donkeys, goats, alpacas, chickens, rabbits and the star of the show, "Big Bird" an Emu.  Some of the animals have been adopted from petting zoos.

Things we learned:

*Horses take about 11 months to have their babies.  Whispering Willows have two expecting soon
*Horse have a very regimented diet, that includes candy canes.
*Alpacas can be stinky and messy and in "Bucky's" case a bit of a trouble maker.
*Roosters keep crowing well past sun up.
*When taking selfies with "Big Bird" use your other hand to hold your glasses

Hats off to Julia, who combines her love of horses with waitressing, going to college and being an active member of the National Guard.  Thanks to her, Gary and everyone at Whispering Willows for allowing us to spend the day.

Julia Davidson received tickets to FrogFest June 13th at the Herkimer County Fairgrounds, presented by White’s Farm Supply and a $50 White’s Farm Supply gift card. They also go into the grand prize drawing for VIP FrogFest tickets and 100 hour rental from White’s Farm Supply. Nominate your farm below.
