The history of the Erie Canal will be presented in a one-hour documentary narrated by ABC "World News Tonight" anchor and Central New York native David MuirMuir, a magna cum laude graduate of Ithaca College started his career in the mid 90's as an anchor/reporter for WTVH television in Syracuse. He then went on to spend three years at WCVB-TV in Boston, before landing at ABC in August, 2003.

Some of Muir's career highlights include reporting from Tehran, Mogadishu, Gaza and other international war zones. He also interviewed President Donald Trump after his inauguration and had a sit down with Pope Francis from inside the Vatican.

The 60 minute documentary, "Erie: The Canal that Made America" highlights the start of construction on the Erie Canal and how a new nation succeeded in constructing the over 300 mile man-made waterway. It was built to create a water route that would link New York City and the Atlantic Ocean to the Great Lakes.

This year marks the 200th year since the start of construction on the Erie Canal.

The program will air September 12 at 8pm on WCNY-TV.
