They say write what you know. Syracuse writer/comedian Moody McCarthy used his hometown experiences to get laughs when he appeared on Conan.

McCarthy opened his monologue by talking about growing up in Syracuse and meeting a lot of great people, who know how to have a good time. "They drink a lot. They don't drink and drive tough. They eat themselves sober at the end of the night."

Before becoming successful on stage, McCarthy was a bartender. "I use to work at a bar that had a weight chart on the wall to help you figure out your blood alcohol content. These guy would come to the chart and go 'alright lets see if I can drive. Ok weight 170. The chart says I can have 4 drinks. I had 9. I gotta get up to 225.'"

McCarthy will MC the Syracuse Crunch's 2016 Toyota All-Star Classic January 31st at the OnCenter.
