Stutterer Lazaro Arbos in American Idol Top 20 After Final Sudden Death Round – Recap [VIDEOS]
The American Idol Top 20 are ready to sing for America’s vote next week. The Top 10 guys sang for the last 5 spots during the sudden death round last night. So who moved on?
Early favorite Lazaro Arbos, who suffers from a stutter, moved on to the live rounds after impressing with Keith Urban’s ‘Tonight I Wanna Cry.’ Although it wasn’t his best performance, his personality and his story will touch America’s heart.
Vincent Powell, a worship leader, has a voice that’s out of this world. After his version of Lenny Williams’ ‘Cause I Love You,’ it was obvious he would sail through to the next round. Vincent may have to be careful not to overdo it in the coming weeks. Joshua Ledet had a great voice during his season too, but was voted off for being over the top. Hopefully Vincent won’t see the same fate.
This was the first time I’d heard or seen Cortez Shaw. Not only is he easy on the eyes, he’s easy on the ears. He hit some high notes in David Guetta’s ‘Titanium,’ that had Keith Urban amazed.
Burnell Taylor was another early standout after his amazing audition, singing a song from ‘The Color Purple.’ He blew everyone away with ‘This Time’ and even had Nicki Minaj saying she’d pay to hear him sing. His story will also touch America’s heart; losing everything in hurricane Katrina. Keep an eye on Burnell, he may be standing at the end.
Nick Boddington barely made it through, taking the last spot in next week’s live show. It came down to Nick and his best friend in the competition, Gurpreet. I was sure the judges would choose Gurpreet because of his uniqueness. Unless Nick does something spectacular, he may be going home early.
