Southern Rock Bands Influence Todays Country

Ask many of today’s hot country artists who their influences were and, unlike past era’s, not many are likely to reference “Old Hank” and Merle. The artists that influenced many contemporary artists such as Zac Brown and Eli Young tend to be more country-rock than pure country and include many of the great “southern rock” bands of the 70′s and 80′s. Here are a few of the truly great ones.
One of the most influential has to be the Allman Brothers Band. The late Duane Allman is still a heavy influence on todays best guitarists.

Go to a country concert today and when the artist plays a country rock encore it’s a likely to be Lynard Skynyrd’s “Free Bird”

Charlie Daniels is STILL influencing today’s artists nearly 40 years after “The South’s Gonna Do It”.

The Marshall Tucker band still influences. The Zac Brown Band’s Clay Cook is a former member of Marshall Tucker.

Look past the beards and you’ll find a band that has influenced countless country stars including Brooks and Dunn.

Charlie Daniels Is Still Rockin'
