Many of us take in the midway entertainment and the pulling events at the annual Boonville-Oneida County Fair.  Even more of us enjoy the livestock and animal exhibits and shows, but you may be missing one big attraction.

Michelle Smith with Cornell Cooperative Extension's NYS 4-H Youth Development Program says in "this day and age with a large focus on STEM, creativity sometimes gets lost. 4H covers a very broad spectrum of interests and hobbies. Many of these focuses, while being considered art or craft, still require essential skills to create, which lead youth into important careers such as engineering, law and education. Art skills require fine hand eye coordination, imagination, patience and attention to detail. All of these are essential for youth to develop into successful adults. These skills also merge into other life skill areas that 4-H strives to promote."

The Boonville-Oneida County Fair runs July 28 to August 2 and will feature more than 200 of these creative projects in 4-H Youth Building, many which will move on to the state fair competition.  So whether you're going for some midway fun, tractor pulling or the Josh Turner Concert, take a few minutes and stroll through the building.
