Some Employers Asking For Facebook Usernames and Passwords

There are some things an employer can’t ask of a prospective employee like their age or religion. However now there is a trend of employers asking job seekers for their Facebook usernames and passwords. According to NJ.com some employers are attempting to find out more about a candidates personal life in order to determine whether or not that persons off-hours behavior might conflict with their companies standards. Just which employers are asking?
The practice seems to be more common among public agencies, especially those seeking to fill law enforcement positions such as police officers or 911 dispatchers. But it’s happening in both the public and private sectors, and some job candidates cannot afford to say no.
The question then becomes how much of your personal life is relevant to your job performance and how much is none of their business.
