Herb Phillipson's has a new owner and it's a familiar face. Guy Viti, who's been with the company for nearly 4 decades is taking over.

Herb Phillipson's, the Army and Navy store that began in 1951, went on the market in January. Gary Phillipson, who had been running the company told WIBX, 'his age, the competitive retail environment and realizing his kids didn't want to take over,' led to the difficult decision of selling.

Philipson says he couldn't be happier about the sale.“Guy started working for my father thirty seven years ago and has worked with me for most of my career. We know the company and its 340 plus employees are in good hands with our friend and co-worker Guy Viti. I’m sure there will be many new and exciting developments for the company under the ownership of Mr. Viti.'

Viti, who's been the President of Merchandising and Operations says he has great plans.'The best is yet to come.'

Herb Phillipson's first opened in Rome and now has 9 locations in New Hartford, Oneida, Herkimer, Liverpool, Newark, Oswego, DeWitt and Watertown.
