It's hard to believe after a beautiful, sunny day with temperatures in the 70s, we're talking snow. Winter weather is in the extended forecast.

Most of Central New York will see rain with temperatures dropping from 65 today to 50 tomorrow and 45 by the weekend. However the wet weather could be snow in the higher elevations.

The National Weather Service says the winter weather is possible Friday night through Sunday.

Friday Night: A chance of rain showers before 1am, then a chance of rain and snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 32. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
Saturday: A chance of snow showers before 9am, then a chance of rain and snow showers between 9am and 10am, then a chance of rain showers after 10am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 42. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
Saturday Night: A chance of rain and snow showers before 9pm, then a chance of snow showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 24. Chance of precipitation is 30%

Is the early snow a sign of things to come this winter? The Farmer's Almanac predicted a repeat of last year; extreme cold temperatures and above normal amounts of snow. On the other hand, AccuWeather says there will be less lake effect snow. Either way, in central New York, you know you're going to need the shovel.
