Skittles Sorting Machine [VIDEO]
OK, so you love Skittles. But you are a busy person who doesn’t have time to sort and separate the different flavors. Leave it to science and a very bored scientist to come to the rescue. It is a Skittle sorting machine and if it’s not something that will change or better the world around us at least it’s fun to watch.
The inventor, Brian Egenriether, explained the gizmo to geekologie.com.
It uses a BASIC Stamp 2 and 3 servos for actuation. An IR LED and phototransistor are used to stop the turnstile in position. I fabricated may of the parts from epoxy including the body, the turnstile, the chute header, etc. The base is wood and the funnel is from a hummingbird feeder. The rest is made from telescope parts and PVC. I’ve made some recent modifications to the machine. Now the color detection stage is visible and I painted some previously unfinished parts.
Now I know you’re asking, “Where can I get one?” Forget it. It’s one of a kind and, so far, the demand hasn’t led to a production line product.
