Several country music legends came to the set of ‘Austin City Limits’ in April to pay tribute to one man: Johnny Cash. The Man in Black would have celebrated his 80th birthday this year, and stars like Shelby Lynne, Willie Nelson, Jamey Johnson, Ronnie Dunn and Kris Kristofferson couldn’t let the day pass without a party.

This video of Lynne performing Cash’s ‘Why Me Lord?’ was recorded at the event, and on August 7, will be available on CD and DVD with the rest of the performances. Taste of Country has your exclusive preview of this rendition from ‘Walk the Line: A Celebration of the Music of Johnny Cash.’

As previously reported, Legacy Recordings is set to release the CD/DVD of the all-star concert in Austin, Texas. Lynne’s ‘Why Me Lord?’ was undoubtedly one of the evening’s highlights, though she also did a duet of ‘It Ain’t Me Babe’ with Train singer Pat Monahan while onstage.

Matthew McConaughey hosted the Johnny Cash tribute event (read our review here), and additional appearances were made by Sheryl Crow, Shooter Jennings and Lucinda Williams. The show took place on April 20, 2012 at the Moody Theatre and paid tribute to Cash’s music, roots and legacy.

Cash died in 2003 at the age of 71.
