July 2014 could start out with quite a bang in Upstate New York, and not just from the fireworks that come along with Independence Day. A heat advisory has been issued for a portion of Upstate New York and there is a threat of severe weather on Tuesday July 1.

Heat Advisory

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for Onondaga and Oswego counties as well as counties in the Finger Lakes region and Rochester. Expect forecasted highs in the mid 90s while heat index values could soar to 100 in the advised counties.

Possible Severe Weather

In the National Weather Service's Public Briefing on Monday June 30, they spelled out the potential for severe storms across Central New York on Tuesday afternoon. Oneida, Madison and Southern Herkimer counties are in the areas with the highest severe weather potential. The timing of the severe threat is between 3 and 8PM.
