5 Senior Dogs Looking For A Home This Christmas In Central New York

During the holiday season maybe you are considering adding a furry friend to your household. It seems that everyone always wants a puppy. What about a senior dog? They still have the best years ahead of them. 

By no means is there anything wrong with wanting to adopt a puppy. However, people tend to forget about older pets that still need a home. These animals are still lovable, and extremely loyal. This Christmas season, it would be amazing to find homes for all homeless dogs in the Central New York region.

We help out humans with Santa for Seniors, what about the dogs? Here are five dogs that are in their senior years and looking for a home this Christmas. Will you be their angel? Are you looking to add a dog to your family? Do you know someone who has time to show these dogs the love they deserve in their golden years?

1) Diesel

Diesel is currently up for adoption at the Rome Humane Society.

Hi, my name is Diesel! I'm a handsome, 10 year old, neutered male, gray and white Weimaraner/Dalmatian mix. I'm friendly and easy going and I get along with most other dogs. I'm such a nice boy, so come meet me today! Because I'm a senior, my adoption fee is reduced to only $80!"

2) Lucy

Lucy is currently up for adoption at the Ayres Memorial Animal Shelter
in Sprakers.

LUCY is a wonderful 9 1/2 year old spayed female Yorkshire Terrier. She came to the shelter on November 7, 2015. She's ok with cats but not good with other dogs. She's crate trained and leash trained. Older kids only, please. Sing one of her favorite songs and she'll sing along with you!"

3) Brownsugar

Brownsugar is currently up for adoption at Papillon Haven Rescue in Syracuse.

Brownsugar is a lovely sweet 8 pound boy, who is easy-going and gets along with everyone. He is friendly and super charming! You cannot look at Brown Sugar and have a bad day. He is just so happy all the time. He never stops wagging his tail and running around with the other dogs. It is almost like the 'Happy' song should be playing in the background for him. He loves everybody and every thing. Occasionally he is shy but it fades fast. Because he has no teeth, his food needs to be softened a bit, but he does well with eating. Brown Sugar would be a wonderful companion, could that lucky person be you?"

4) Lydie

Lydie is up for adoption at the Ayres Memorial Animal Shelter in Sprakers.

LYDIE is a 7 to 9 year old spayed female Shepherd mix, 82.4 lbs. She was found on Brookmans Corner Road. She's sweet and gentle, very easygoing. She's good with some dogs and fine with cats and kids. Housebroken. Special needs."

5) Muzzle Tuff

Muzzle Tuff is currently up for adoption at Col Potter Cairn Rescue Network-NE in Whitesboro.

Muzzle Tuff is a laid back, very small, quiet older dog who would do best in a low activity household. He will not need long walks but willingly joins us on our group walks. He finds quiet places in the house (under the bed) to feel safe. He likes to quietly play with toys by himself. He is a gentle little soul who needs a loving home."
