During the holiday season maybe you are considering adding a furry friend to your household. It seems that everyone always wants a puppy. What about a senior dog? These dogs still have the best years ahead of them.

By no means is there anything wrong with wanting to adopt a puppy. However, people tend to forget about older pets that still need a home. These animals are still lovable, and extremely loyal. This Christmas season, it would be amazing to find homes for all homeless dogs in the Central New York region.

We help out humans with Santa for Seniors, what about the dogs? Here are five dogs that are in their senior years and looking for a home this Christmas.

Meet CHANCE , he came to us from a hoarding situation where 19 Border Collies were split between local rescues and shelters. Chance is approximately 8 years old border collie, neutered, utd on vaccines and awaiting a dental. Hes got a brand new collar on, walking right beside you on a leash. Still a bit weary and nervous but doing phenomenal. Hes great with dogs and even cats. Great with dog savvy children who will not run, tug or try to play with him. He just wants to settle right now. Hes even coming over to snuggle. he has come so far in such a short time. Chance is ready to begin his new journey in a forever home . Brownsugar is currently up for adoption at Papillon Haven Rescue in Syracuse.

Brownsugar is a lovely sweet 8 pound boy, who is easy-going and gets along with everyone. He is friendly and super charming! You cannot look at Brown Sugar and have a bad day. He is just so happy all the time. He never stops wagging his tail and running around with the other dogs. It is almost like the 'Happy' song should be playing in the background for him. He loves everybody and every thing. Occasionally he is shy but it fades fast. Because he has no teeth, his food needs to be softened a bit, but he does well with eating. Brown Sugar would be a wonderful companion, could that lucky person be you?"

4) Missy

Missy is up for adoption at the Safe At Last Animal Rescue, Inc. in Fultonham

Missy (or Missy Mouse as we call her because of her beautiful flowing ears) is a 10-year-old Shih Tzu mix, and is a very, very special case.

Missy originally came to us from Kentucky and was placed with a family who ultimately was unable to provide Missy the day-to-day care that she needs; and, so, through no fault of her own, this 10-year-young sweet girl is once again looking for a truly forever family
