No need to panic yet.  New York State is preparing for the testing of "autonomous" cars on our roads.  Governor Cuomo announced the state is now taking applications from companies that wish to test or demonstrate the self-driving cars.

New York now becomes one of thirteen states where the self-driving technology can be tested on highways.  According to the timesunion.com, the testing must be conducted under the supervision of the State Police, and there must be an actual licensed driver in the vehicle's driver's seat during testing.

The state has called for a one year testing period beginning this June.  At that time, there will be a report filed by the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles.
