Rome residents could see their taxes go up next year. Mayor Jacqueline Izzo presented her 2017 budget proposal to the Common Council, that calls for a 1.57% increase.

The $42.6 million spending plan carries a tax hike that is below the state's two-percent tax cap. The increase would equates to less than 32-cents per thousand, which Izzo says will have a minimal impact on already overburdened taxpayers.

Izzo says putting the budget together and staying under the tax cap was very challenging.  The budget is her first since taking office.

The Common Council must act on the proposed budget by the end of October.
