The Aquatics Department is looking for Red Cross Certified Lifeguards. You can apply in person at the Rome Family YMCA located at 301 West Bloomfield Street in Rome. There are several positions available for part-time employment. The hours they are looking to fill are between 5am-9pm.

There are several swimming programs also available to check out this summer:

1) Deep Water Jogging

(Main Pool) Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 8:30 am- 9:30 am

This class is for swimmers and non swimmers and it’s perfect for those with joint pain or for those recovering from an injury. Swim strokes and yoga stretches provide a unique and fun exercise experience. It combines all over body toning with a no impact aerobic exercise. Participants wear a floatation belt, which encourages relaxation and develops core strength.

 

2) Aquq Yoga

(Therapy Pool) Monday 11:30am-12:30pm and Wednesday 12:00pm-1:00pm

The water provides resistance needed for strengthening all muscle groups in comfort. This class incorporates yoga stretching and core strengthening. It is invigorating and relaxing.

 

3) Young at Heart

(Main Pool) Monday thru Friday 9:30am-10:30 am

This class is a safe, efficient and fun way for people of all ages and fitness levels to exercise. The workout involves all muscle groups, while the water buoyancy provides extra cushion. You exercise at your own pace, helping to tone and improve your strength and flexibility.

 

4) Aquamotion/Strength and Stretch

(Therapy Pool) Mon, Wed,& Friday 10:45am- 11:30am and Mon, Tues, and Wed 6:30pm-7:30pm

This class is designed especially for adults with arthritis, fibromyalgia, knee and hip issues, or strokes. The instructor will lead the class through gentle exercise, which increases flexibility and endurance. This class will improve your flexibility.

 

5) Aqua Zumba

(Main Pool ) Tuesday 5:30am-6:30pm, Thursday 5:00pm-6:00pm , and Saturday 12:00pm-1:00pm

Aqua Zumba is perfect for those looking to make a splash by adding a low-impact, high-energy aquatic exercise to their fitness routine. Aqua Zumba blends the Zumba philosophy with water resistance, for one pool party you shouldn’t miss. There is less impact on your joints during an Aqua Zumba class so you can really let loose. Water creates natural resistance, which means every step is more challenging and helps tone your muscles.

 

6) Aqua Boot Camp

(Main Pool) Monday 6:30pm-7:30pm

This class is designed for lap swimmers and advance water-aerobics participants with some swimming skills. You should be comfortable anywhere in the pool without a floatation device. The benefits of this class include high-intensity, anaerobic interval training, an increase in your core strength and endurance, and an opportunity to use almost every muscle in your body.
