Former Roman and RFA class of 1976 graduate, Rob Manfred could be voted in as the next commissioner of baseball at today's owners meetings.

The NY Times reports the following:

Rob Manfred, the top deputy to Commissioner Bud Selig, was within one vote of succeeding him in the job after the first round of balloting on Thursday by Major League Baseball’s 30 owners."

Many locals will know that Manfred is also a member of the Rome Sports Hall of Fame.

CBS Sports reports that the election requires 23 votes, which is about 75 percent of the votes.

The majority will apparently work to see if one additional vote can be swung to Manfred to elect him to succeed outgoing commissioner Bud Selig."
