Residents in the tiny New York village of Esperance woke up to find swastikas painted on signs and buildings.

Deputy Mayor Kelly Shelffo shared pictures on Facebook and encourages anyone with information to contact her or the state police in Cobleskill.

Police believe the vandalism took place sometime in the early morning hours of January 1st. But it didn't take long for people to step up and remove the signs from around town.

Shelffo says they haven't caught the culprit but she's confident they will soon.

Esperance is in Schoharie County, west of Schenectady.
