Remembering Secretariat America’s Greatest Thorougbred [VIDEO]

You didn’t have to be a betting man or woman to experience goose bumps while watching Secretariat win the Belmont Stakes by 31 lengths to complete horse racing’s Triple Crown on this day, June 9, 1973. The big chesnut 3-year old became the first horse in twenty-five years to win the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont Stakes all in dominating fashion and endearing himself to the entire nation. The late John Stewart recorded this moving tribute to arguably the greatest race horse in history. Remember the excitement and enjoy.
Secretariat continued to race until October of 1973 and was then retired to stud. He ultimately acquired an incurable hoof disorder and was euthanized in October of 1989 at age 19.
