Kane Buss Memory Lives On With Scholarship, Funeral Saturday

Kane Buss, who was tragically killed in a car accident was 'a passionate and dedicated leader, a true friend, an amazing son and brother, and an avid sneaker collector.' His memory will now live on with the Kane Buss Football Scholarship Fund.

Kane's funeral will be held Saturday, January 24th at St Paul's United Methodist Church in Oneida at 1pm. Calling hours are Friday at the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home in Oneida, 3-7 p.m.

A campaign was set up for students to donate and help cover funeral costs to buy flowers. It's already raised close to $6500. The family has decided the extra money will go into the Scholarship fund. If you'll like to contribute, go to GoFundMe.com.

Saturday night there will be a ceremony in honor of Kane at the OHS football field at 6pm. There will be a candle lighting and lantern release, so please arrive at 5:45 and pair with a friend to release a lantern. Bringing candles, lighters, matches and warm clothes. There will be a prayer and a few vocalists. A great opportunity to support your friends, community, Amanda and Kane's family.

Kane Buss Obituary

'Kane M. Buss, 19, Williams Street, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015, at Upstate University Hospital from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in the city of Syracuse. Born in Oneida on Feb. 7, 1995, he was a son of Christopher "Mike" and Claudette Hitchings Buss. A lifelong resident of the area, Kane was a graduate of Oneida High School, Class of 2013, where he was captain on the OHS football team, was a member of the basketball and baseball teams, and a member of the Class B Division All-Star football team. Kane was a full-time student at Herkimer Community College, majoring in criminal justice and was on the Dean's List. He participated in intramural basketball and weight lifting at the college. He was employed part-time at Herb Phillipson's Store in Oneida. Kane was a passionate and dedicated leader, a true friend, an amazing son and brother, and an avid sneaker collector. Surviving besides his parents, are his brother, Dalton W. Buss of Oneida; his girlfriend, Amanda Pawlikowski of Vernon; his paternal grandmother, Susan J. Buss of Oneida; his paternal grandparents, Mary and Richard Phillips of Canastota; maternal grandparents, Claude and Janet Hitchings of Higginsville; three aunts, Jane Whipple and her companion, Jim Jones of Canastota, Connie and Marty Pikarski of LaFayette, and Cheryl and Jeff Hull of Verona; three uncles, Mark Buss and his companion Julie Kirk of Oneida, Wayne Buss of Vernon, and Chad Hitchings of Higginsville; his beloved cat, Rosie; and several cousins. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Saturday from St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Sayles Street, with the Rev. Brian Fellows, pastor and David Woodcock, co-officiating. Remembering Kane Buss in Pictures

Buss was killed Sunday January 18th when his car was struck by an alleged drunk driver. His last act of heroism was to shield his girlfriend Amanda Pawlikowski from the impact, saving her life.

Amanda remembered the love of her life with this heartbreaking message on Instagram:

“My perfect, perfect boy. There are no words to describe the pain myself, our families, and friends are feeling after the selfish actions of a drunk driver. You are the most amazing man I have ever known and I will never forget your contagious giggles, giant heart, the way you make me laugh, and the fact that you are just such an amazing guy. You are so handsome and charming I feel lucky to have you everyday. You changed my life for the better and You will always be my everything. I will forever call you mine. If it weren’t for your brave and selfless characteristics, I would not be here today. I wish I could have kept you safer, I would do anything to have your arms around me at this point in time. You stole my heart, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. You were the one for me and although our time was cut short, I can’t thank you enough for showing me what true love is. I love you more than I could ever put into words, Kane Buss. Keep me safe and I can’t wait until I see your precious face again, Rest in peace my sweet, sweet angel.”
