Remember when air shows were held at Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome?

John Thayer remembers the air shows, that were called 'Commanders Days.' He shared pictures of the Thunderbirds, Blue Angels and stunt teams. People crowded around for the opportunity to see inside the planes, tanks and helicopters.

Jason Siderine remembers going to the shows as a child. "They had them yearly. It was the best day. I remember my dad would pick me and my brother up from school in his flight line truck and take us to watch the Thunderbird's or Blue Angels or the Italian Stunt Team fly in and practice. It was awesome."

Larry Fox fondly recalls the Thunderbirds. "I lived on Gualitere Avenue in 67 and saw the Thunderbirds. What a show! I want to go back in time and stay there."

Lauren Caro-Connor's parents would set up a food booth every year. "I loved those. I remember going inside the hangar and getting to sit inside tanks and helicopters. At night everyone would sit in the grass where the soft ball field is now and watch fire works."

Griffiss opened in 1942 but closed as part of the base realignment in 1995.
